Winter Musings

I started the motorcycles yesterday and they all cooperated. At 34 years of age it always astounds me how well the 250 Nighthawk fires up and settles into a steady idle. I can tell by physical condition and other factors that the bike was used by people who were both mechanically clueless and treated it as a starter bike to be used for a brief time then sold to make way for a newer bigger one. Once I finally got everything straightened out it has rewarded me with flawless performance and a solid ride. It's no big engine sport bike but I have used it on group rides in the company of motorcycles with engines four times its size. We don't seem to get in the way. In addition to all its virtues it doesn't burn a drop of oil between changes.
Just to add to my sadness we have had multiple snows this season. There hasn't been anything deeper than a couple of inches but just last night we had the seventh snow of the season amounting to a dusting on the lawn and driveway. My snow blower has seen action five times already and saves my back from shoveling. It's self propelled and only needs directing at the bars from me to do its thing.
Spring is only two months away and hopefully the weather will be mild enough to let me ride sooner. January has been fairly cold this year and according to longer range forecasts won't give us the brief thaw we sometimes experience at the end of this month. Worse yet, for me, the streets are white with road salt because of the snowfalls and I won't take anything out until we get rain to rinse it off.
Hopefully the new year has started out well for all of you and will continue. Stay safe and I will talk to you soon.
