Sitting
Posted by Jim Zeiser on Thursday, January 29, 2026
Here I sit looking out the window at twenty-one degrees and two feet of snow. It's even too cold in the garage to start the motorcycles. We are having below zero temperatures at night so thinking about riding is stifled. But looking forward to the coming season isn't. Rides for Spring are already being posted and the memory of when certain ride dates are is beginning to stir. Winter is one-third over so why not?
It's amazing to me that it's 2026. Not so much that the calendar moves on but that it means that so many days are behind me. I can still recall so many events from those days passed and when I assign a date to them I grimace at how long ago they were. There were summer rides in 1974 on my new Kawasaki with people no longer with us. The days of dirt racing on Long Island in places that are now office buildings and housing developments. The site of my first race is now where Cablevision (Optimum) resides. I pay a monthly bill to them for cable TV and internet.
In the next six months I'll return to the Americade Rally in Lake George, ride to Kingston, among others, for road events and do milk and takeout runs on one scooter or another. There is a promise of Mystery Rides to undisclosed locations like the last run of 2025 by the Hudson Valley Biker Network. It should be a very good time.
So while I experience cabin fever along with so many of you there is a light at the end of the Winter tunnel. Fortunately I have Linda with me to keep things real and we go out to lunch and shopping to stir things up. Two more months and Winter will be a memory. In the meantime I will just pretend my snow blower is one of the bikes as I clean the driveway.
