Rain, Rain Go Away

July 1, 2013
As you can tell by the title the weather hasn't been too pleasant here recently. Our stream on the back of the property has been quite vocal as it runs with great pressure from the rain fall we've been living with. In other parts of the region there has been flooding with streets disappearing under the flow of local streams. We've been lucky in that the rain hasn't filled our stream to overflowing but the sun hasn't been a frequent visitor and motorcycle rides have been few and far between.

Big Scootin

June 24, 2013
In addition to the usual uses as a commuter vehicle the big scooter has enjoyed a few trips to Binghamton for various reasons. Last Thursday I had to ride to Binghamton to see a Podiatrist about ending the ongoing pain in my foot. The reason turned out to be so minor that it's a wonder that it caused so much pain. It seems that I strained it so badly at work that I stressed the muscle that runs through the foot. A little anti-inflamation medication, some ice, better shoes and gel pads along w...

Ride to Work Day

June 17, 2013
For those of you not acquainted with it, the third Monday in June has been annually designated as "Ride Your Motorcycle to Work Day". Unfortunately for me today is one of my days off so I used the big scooter to do some errands. The first was to bring a package to the local Post Office to mail off to our nephew in Webster, NY. The weather today is gorgeous and the thermometer at the bank across from the Post Office read 76*. It's one of those days when you wish you had someplace about fifty m...

Another Sunday

June 16, 2013
It was Fathers Day, it was lunchtime, we were hungry. What a perfect excuse for a ride. I chose Wendy's for the meal and had the perfect vehicle for a food run. Now I know you're thinking, "So big deal, he dragged out the 50cc bike to run to town." My original thought exactly but that isn't what I did. The problem with the 50cc is that the crate on the back is open so the food would be cold by the time I got home. No, the answer was to take the big scooter. First, it has two sealed compartmen...

A Morning Commute

June 9, 2013
Lately my job has had me starting at four in the morning on Sundays putting out stickers indicating an item is on sale for the week. Saying that the effort to get up that early in the morning is taxing is an understatement. I dislike missing an opportunity to commute to work but it has to be warm, dry and have a low percentage of chance to precipitate for me to take the big scooter. Two things make an early morning ride a test. The first is the occasional fog I encounter on the route. It can ...

The Useful Engine

June 5, 2013
Back when my sons were little they watched the adventures of Thomas the Tank Engine-alot. One of the ways that an engine on the show was congratulated for going above and beyond was by being called a "Really Useful Engine". My big scooter has attained that title this week by being my vehicle of choice on a pair of good sized rides and saving me a pile of gas money. I'm having a health dilemma this week involving a painful foot and it has required a pair of trips to my Doctor's office in Bingh...

Hot, Hot, Hot

May 29, 2013
The warm weather has finally landed here and we're seeing eighty degrees now and then, in between the rain storms. We've entered that time of year when we get rain, sun and mow, generally in that order. The rain has curbed my big scooter commutes but hasn't dimmed my grocery runs on the little 50cc bike. It seems Mother Nature has deemed afternoons as prime time for storms or about the time I'd be commuting home. As they say, "Better days ahead."
The price of gasoline has been my major source ...

Talk About Luck!

May 22, 2013
I decided this morning to get my big scooter inspected at the local Kawasaki dealer. What I like about them is that even though they're in a building the size of aircraft hanger they still maintain their personal way of dealing. I called this morning to confirm that I could have it done and the woman that answered the phone thanked me for calling to check. They still appreciate a customer that treats them like people and not robots in a factory. When I first moved up here they were in a much ...

The Latest News

May 17, 2013
I went a long time without hearing from anybody commenting on this site but I just got a second, ok maybe third, message.

Hey Jim, I read just about every post you've put out about you're Roketta and just had to grab one for myself. I think it's a shame that the US no longer embraces small displacement engines in our current situation. But I digress, Bike just arrived and I was wondering if you had any tips and tricks you could pass on the a guy. At 21 I'm looking forward to finally get i...
