Finally...something to write about! The first organized event for me every year starts very close by in Poughkeepsie at a restaurant called PC's Paddock. When you get there in the morning there is always coffee and pastries to enjoy alongside seeing people not seen since last season. Among others it's a man named Clark. He and I both ride older Kawasaki's from the last century. While mine is a decade newer than his, as a 1983 model, his Kawasaki 900cc is from 1975 and is pristine. It glitters in its all-original form looking like it just rolled out of the showroom. The only thing that isn't from the factory is an accessory exhaust system that emits a lovely, muffled song as it picks up speed.
The ride followed a slightly different route than last year and had my reflexes jumping. The group would suddenly slow down hard whenever we reached a turn and had my radar on full alert for most of the trip. As an aside my Kawasaki was running a fairly worn rear tire that was replaced the next day. At least once it slide slightly. Last year I replaced the brake pads on my entire triple disk system and the new rear pads overpowered the back tire. The new tire should tame that issue.
Before we knew it we were at the halfway point where I chatted with other riders until it was time to go. The return trip was an independent ride so Clark and I did a Classic Kawasaki run to the finish. It felt like I had gone back forty years in time as Clark and I negotiated our chosen route to the finish. His Kawasaki and mine were doing the turns easily and we reached the finish pretty quickly.
When we reached the end, a delicious cookout was going on. Food and soft drinks were in abundance, and we sat and chatted about what was in store for the coming season as we listened to a live band playing Classic Rock. The whole day set an excellent tone for the upcoming season, and I was satisfied with both my riding and the Kawasaki's performance. Americade is at the end of the month, and everything feels in synch. You will hear about it when it comes around.

As a general rule the Hudson Valley Biker Network holds a Bike Night around the middle of April. This year was no different. We enjoyed a few days of Summer-like weather this past week and it was a great time to hold the event. I pondered which motorcycle or scooter to take and decided to take the CF Moto 250cc scooter. It could use a run and was next on the list to be moved. It worked well.
It has pained me the last couple of weeks to fill the two wheeled vehicles, even at their small capac...

The official start to the riding season was two weeks ago with Motorcycle Inspection Day. It's the one time in the Bike season that I get to ride all four of my fleet in one day. It allows me to do more than just start them and listen to the thunder in the garage.
First out of the blocks was the Kawasaki, my biggest bike. I do the Kawasaki first so I don't get thrown off by its size and power after riding something lighter and not as strong. It's always cool to experience the intensity of t...

Here I sit looking out the window at twenty-one degrees and two feet of snow. It's even too cold in the garage to start the motorcycles. We are having below zero temperatures at night so thinking about riding is stifled. But looking forward to the coming season isn't. Rides for Spring are already being posted and the memory of when certain ride dates are is beginning to stir. Winter is one-third over so why not?
It's amazing to me that it's 2026. Not so much that the calendar moves on but th...

After writing about the three rides previously I came to see that they were just a rehash at best. The past season was really so much more and deserved a better writeup. I'll try to do a better job this time around. There were many things that made the season stand out. For one, I was spending a lot more time on the Kawasaki, which it deserved.
In its day the Kawasaki was a hot rod. Quarter miles in twelve seconds, a top speed near one hundred and twenty miles an hour and real Touring capab...

Now that the organized ride season is over I thought I would write expanded versions of my thoughts on each event. When I totaled up the events I attended this past season I was surprised to note they numbered nine. I'll start with the events I rode on my side of the Hudson River (East) and in a pair of future installments relate the events on the west side of the river.
The first event of the year, as always, was the Suicide Prevention Ride out of Poughkeepsie. In years past the ride went ...

I rode yesterday. For me it was a pretty long day. Altogether about 138 miles. Not epic, but quite a few for me in one day. Even more noteworthy, for me, is that the Kawasaki has over 1,000 miles more on it since the Inspection in April. I had a few years that it only got 250 miles between Inspections. I may even have to replace the back tire at the end of next season. I feel like a biker again.
The ride itself was surprising. There was supposed to be an afternoon end of season gathering in ...

Last weekend I attended an event starting in Woodstock for the Ulster County SPCA. It promised to be a great day weather-wise with temperatures in the eighties and bright, cloudless sunlight. The ride there was, as always, worth doing with the usual collection of country roads with little traffic. It started at Woodstock Harley Davidson and there was a small crowd already by the time I arrived. I had conversations with several people about motorcycles and soon it was time to go.
The first th...

Every year about this time a local group has an event dedicated to a Veteran who passed away. The ride is always a welcome part of my riding season with an excellent route, great food and music at the end along with a free T-shirt for early registration. Over the years I have used each of two wheelers at least once at this event. This year I decided to use the big scooter. The CF Moto is quick enough to keep up under most circumstances, but it has one flaw I forgot about. It doesn't climb st...

Last weekend was a very busy time. It's been a while since I had two rides one day after the other but there it was. On Saturday there was a ride for Suicide Prevention that started at the Locust Grove Brewery in Milton. The best part was it started right across the river about ten miles away. I had never done this ride before so...Hmmm... what to take? I hadn't done a ride on the Nighthawk in a while. The only unknown was what kind of terrain would there be and could the 250cc engine keep u...
