This is the time of year that I dislike the most. January Winter. This year it's been especially cold with a few single digit temps, snow and black ice. To combat this the local highway department slathers salt on the roads with great gusto and right now you can't tell where the snow starts and the road ends in the gutter. I don't dare take any of the bikes out in this as rust protection is nonexistent on motorcycles and scooters. I go down once a week and start the bikes to keep their fuel running through the lines and electricity heating up their batteries a little. The most troublesome sit on trickle chargers to keep their batteries alive.
It's when I do a lot of reading about upcoming rallies and new products about to hit the market. I'm not going to buy any, of course, just like to stay on top of things so I can tell friends about an item that will make their lives easier. It also lets me live vicariously through other people and their adventures. I also get a lot of chances to use my snow blower and feel the mechanical throb of its engine as I remove snow from the driveway. It reminds me of an old motorcycle as it's both loud and crude. Well, okay, it has an electric starter but it's still pretty primitive.
So that's what I'm doing now. Spring is sixty days away and I'm hoping for a little warmth and salt free roads before then but not counting on it. Maybe I'll write to complain about the weather here some more just to use up some free time. Stand by.
