Hot, Hot, Hot

Posted by Jim Zeiser on Wednesday, May 29, 2013,
The warm weather has finally landed here and we're seeing eighty degrees now and then, in between the rain storms. We've entered that time of year when we get rain, sun and mow, generally in that order. The rain has curbed my big scooter commutes but hasn't dimmed my grocery runs on the little 50cc bike. It seems Mother Nature has deemed afternoons as prime time for storms or about the time I'd be commuting home. As they say, "Better days ahead."
The price of gasoline has been my major source ...

Talk About Luck!

Posted by Jim Zeiser on Wednesday, May 22, 2013,
I decided this morning to get my big scooter inspected at the local Kawasaki dealer. What I like about them is that even though they're in a building the size of aircraft hanger they still maintain their personal way of dealing. I called this morning to confirm that I could have it done and the woman that answered the phone thanked me for calling to check. They still appreciate a customer that treats them like people and not robots in a factory. When I first moved up here they were in a much ...

The Latest News

I went a long time without hearing from anybody commenting on this site but I just got a second, ok maybe third, message.

Hey Jim, I read just about every post you've put out about you're Roketta and just had to grab one for myself. I think it's a shame that the US no longer embraces small displacement engines in our current situation. But I digress, Bike just arrived and I was wondering if you had any tips and tricks you could pass on the a guy. At 21 I'm looking forward to finally get i...

Commuting News

Posted by Jim Zeiser on Wednesday, May 8, 2013,
I just checked the score sheet that I use to keep track of commuter trips and saw that I had reached ten trips. The ramifications of that, while minor, are sometimes pretty sobering. For one thing ten trips to work means that I saved $60 in gas over using the minivan. It also means that I didn't put 350 miles on the aging vehicle. While that distance doesn't sound like much it's approximately a trip from New York City to Rochester, NY. Since we only recently started having bike riding weather...

The Tire

Posted by Jim Zeiser on Sunday, May 5, 2013,
Sometimes you can only put off a job for so long and then it catches up with you. I finally ran out of weather and time excuses yesterday and had to replace the rear tire on the big scooter. While it wasn't exactly torturous, it was time consuming and I learned a few things along the way about the scoot. In removing the wheel from Galileo, my name for it since "Fashion" just doesn't cut it for me, I found it was in need of another muffler bolt. One of them had sheared in half and was just han...

A Very Busy Day

Posted by Jim Zeiser on Wednesday, May 1, 2013,
This is what I call weather. It's 70* right now and a perfect day for riding. I got in two trips to town today on the 50cc bike and my big scooter. You see when the thermometer starts to climb and the sun hangs out all day my grass takes that as a sign to shoot up quickly. I had to make a run into town to fill up a pair of gas cans and get some groceries. Since I don't believe it's healthy to stuff gas cans and food into the same box I made two separate trips. The gas run was first with a pai...
