I had planned for several weeks to attend the first annual David Gabriel memorial ride starting in Wappingers Falls. What I hadn't decided until almost the last minute was which of my three motorcycles I would ride. A few days before the event I ran my options through my head and settled on the big Kawasaki.

I had already taken the Honda and CF Moto scooter on group rides while the Kawasaki languished in the garage. I also felt that its engine size would save me some work riding among the Large American bikes I had been surrounded by on previous events. Not to mention that I have always felt that I was a Kawasaki rider stretching back to 1974 when I bought my first one.
This event was not as big as the last one but probably had close to sixty entries. If you ever seen sixty motorcycles coming down the road you know it looks a lot bigger than the numbers actually are. I could see bikes stretching out a good, long way behind me in my mirrors so it was quite impressive to see. We rode down to Southern Dutchess County on roads I had never been on before for about sixty miles. The weather and the roads made for a lovely day for a good cause. Back at the end of the ride there was food and a band which made the day even more special.
There may only be one more motorcycle event this year but even if not this has been a pretty good year for riding.
My Mom is getting better every day with her doctors giving her a clean bill of health on her hip injury. They are all impressed that a person of her age has healed so quickly. We will be going down again to visit in a week or so. Hopefully Long Island traffic will have calmed down now that the Summer has ended.
Oh yeah. The last two days Linda and I have been strolling on the Walkway Over the Hudson to get in some exercise. The view from this former railway bridge is quite breathtaking. Today we watched a tugboat pushing a big barge as a train rumbled by along the river. We both enjoy the quiet as we stride along and talk about whatever comes to mind. Our anniversary is coming up and we chat about the days leading up to the wedding and the events surrounding it. It's been a good Summer, I hope yours was as good.
