I haven't done anything of great length in the last couple of weeks but my fleet is not idle. After bringing the Honda home from the shop it returned to the weekly starting and warmup routine. The other day I unleashed it from the garage and took it on a little spin around the area, Hyde Park has a few historic sites and a run past them was in order. Franklin Roosevelt's home is a few miles away and if done properly I can ride past the Park holding Eleanor Roosevelt's post Presidential home, Valkill. in the process. Further up Rt. 9 is the Vanderbilt Mansion National Historic Site, a sprawling estate of incredible elegance.
Across the road from Roosevelt's Mansion is the Hyde Park Drive In Theater. While that might not mean much to many of you, it does to me. I grew up on Long Island where in my youth there were several Drive Ins. Over the years the property they sat on became more valuable than their income as a Drive In. They are now big Office Parks and shopping Malls. To the people there these Drive Ins are sorely missed
The Honda, as always, does its job with amazing proficiency. Despite being over thirty years old it runs, shifts and handles about as well as anything in its class today. It's even fairly comfortable on long rides and always makes me smile.
The smallest member of the group, the new red scooter, got a run around the area too. While it's still in break in mode the scooter is becoming stronger and pulls away from traffic lights with decent speed. I'm hoping that once it has the requisite mileage it will be doing local highway speeds with ease and longer rides will be in order.
There are many events forthcoming and I'm satisfied that my gang is ready to go. Stay tuned for future reports.
